Caiti brought her boyfriend Cody along……
Taylor brought Morgan……
and of course, Marcus and Katilin joined us…..
My sister hosted our family renunion at her spacious and gorgeous house…..
—where we ate too much of this…..
and got to meet baby Piper!
and got to visit with our out-of-town relatives…..
we ended the night with a bonfire and smores.
and although my kitchen is still not quite done, I did get the old pantry converted to a small half bath. This is my favorite little bathroom in the house. We all fight over it!
Tales from the 4th of July, part 1
We started out our holiday extravaganza by picking up Mal from the airport. He’s the oldest of this large brood of children and we feel so lucky that he took time off work to come and visit. We know that these times of most of us being all together will get fewer and farther between.
then we wasted no time heading to the water to play on this……
and this
and this……
Our sweet neighbor invited our gang for dinner!?! We enjoyed wonderful food and company and then went back to the lake to watch fireworks from the boat.
The boys enjoyed some ceeegars.
The girlies got excited about the fireworks.
And the dogs went a little crazy.
BTW, dogs + lake = stinky.
stayed tuned for part 2.
10 years of bliss!
What greater thing is there for two human souls
than to feel that they are joined together to strengthen
each other in all labor, to minister to each other in all sorrow
to share with each other in all gladness,
to be one with each other in all the silent
unspoken memories?
George Eliot (1819-1880)
Happy Anniversary honey. A lifetime won’t be enough. Love you.
june
And Summer, dear summer, hath years of June
With large white clouds, and cool showers at noon:
And a beauty that grows to a weight like grief,
Till a burst of tears is the heart’s relief.

Chocolate Cake and Homeade Cheese Danish
Now that I’m the proud owner of the most wonderful stove in the world, I fear this may become a food blog.
Meet Beatty’s Chocolate Cake (courtesy of Ina Garten) which I made for Father’s Day! It’s wonderfully moist with a bit of a mocha flair although not to be confused with mocha cake proper.
Then there’s homeade cheese danish which could very well be the easiest yummy recipe known to man.
And then you can top it with homeade strawberry jelly and fall in love with danish all over again.
Here’s how simple it is: (and I can’t take credit for the recipe)
Preheat oven to 350.
Unfold and press 1 can of crescent rolls into a 9×13 pan.
Mix 2 sticks of softened cream cheese with 1 cup of sugar, 3 egg yolks, and 1 t. vanilla.
Spread this mixture over the crescent rolls and then unfold another can of crescent rolls and lay it on top of the cream cheese mixture.
Brush the top with egg wash (the leftover whites from the mixture) and then sprinkle with sugar.
Bake for 35 minutes and cool before slicing.
Enjoy as is or top with preserves.
Serve to your wonderful family!

happy father’s day
as waves of change crash in on us
you stand tall and strong and sure.
my knees buckle, i fear i’m losing my way.
and yet you set your eyes firmly ahead,
never flinching, just as steady as the sun rising.
gentle yet fierce,
tender but never weak,
strong like an oak and wise like your Father.
i have never known anyone quite like you,
with a heart easily touched and sometimes broken
but never wavering.
i see Him in you and am thankful.
and i know that you will carry me until the storm passes
and all will be well.
you have made a safe place for us to grow and play and love.
watching you father is one of life’s sweet joys
and our children are blessed beyond measure.
happy father’s day.
we love you.
