What does caring look like?
It looks like a baby in manger who will become one of us to know our pain and sorrow.
It looks like Jewish boy who even at 12 years old knew the importance of His Father’s house.
It looks like a man whose days were filled with touching people and healing them and giving them life.
It looks so clearly like a cross, where One Man bore the collective guilt and shame of us all, trading His life for our ransom.
It looks like an empty tomb, where the resurrection of One Man sets the rest of us free.
And in turn, it looks like you, learning from Him and living your life for someone else in a ‘myriad of petty little unsexy ways everyday’.
Bless you today and blessed be the name of the Lord—the One whose caring changed the world.

A touching and beautifully written piece. Lately my prayer has been that the Lord make me aware how I can more fully serve those around me in ways that show how much I care. To be more present and loving, especially starting with loved ones at home who sometimes in the rush and bustle of life become invisible and taken for granted. What a blessed gift it is to have those in our lives to sacrifice for and for this I am so grateful! Thank you Edie, you are a blessing!
I never thought of using the word “petty.” That is exactly and appropriate word isn’t it. I think also we could stand to not despise the small things in life, both for others, and for ourselves.
Just a note of encouragement. God is so lavishly bestowing upon ourselves petty little things. I sometimes find myself not doing those things, maybe it’s painting toe nails, maybe it’s a walk without the kids around the neighborhood to have a liesurly talk with neighbors when you see them….Whatever petty little thing one can do for oneself often shouldn’t be neglected, for it makes us less vibrant when we don’t recieve the joy the Father loves to lavish upon us. Go do a petty little thing for yourself first, and see if you won’t be filled with gratitude to go spread the joy of doing something small for another.
Don’t despise the small things.
