Several of you inquired about these after I posted my December Meal Plan. I’m happy to oblige! (Also, thank you for your kindness on the Christmas House Tour! Y’all are so sweet to me.)
I’m pretty original with recipe names, as you can plainly see. I’ve got the Best Ever Chocolate Chip Cookies, the Best Ever Beef Stew and the Best Ever Quiche Lorraine. I’m super creative like that.
But these are on my short list of favorite homemade things. They second only to my Grannie’s Fudge recipe, which I highly recommend you make as soon as humanly possible. I make these brownies. throughout the year, but put a raspberry on top and they make almost any holiday festive, and they’re so fast to make that you won’t stress over it. And you could put anything on top—a peppermint, a peppermint hershey’s kiss, a small candy cane. The possibilities are endless.
They’re moist and super simple and delicious. You’ll never buy brownies again. (Or maybe you will, but you’ll think of these first!)
What you’ll need:
For the brownies
- 1 stick butter
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 can Hershey’s syrup
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 cup plus 1 T. flour
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional, I didn’t put them in mine)
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
For the frosting
- 6 T. butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/3 c. milk
- 1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1. tsp. vanilla
What you’ll do:
- Mix ingredients together for brownies and place in greased 9 by 13 pan.
- Bake for about 30 minutes on 350.
- As the brownies bake, start the frosting. Melt butter, sugar, and milk and boil for 1 minute.
- Remove from heat then add chocolate chips and vanilla.
- Stir until slightly thickens and spread over brownies.

Too funny–this is exactly my mom’s Christmas Brownie recipe. We put a pecan half on top of each one. And…a lot of the time I freeze them and eat them straight out of the freezer! They are so fudge that they never get too hard. Plus my kids usually forget to look there. More for me!! Mwah hah hah…

I don’t know, Edie, my mom’s recipe is pretty amazing. I didn’t even know you could make boxed brownies until I got to college and I still default to scratch. 🙂

Hi Edie,
This is my first time commenting, but I’ve read your blog for a while. I love it and the grace of Jesus you are always mentioning. Thank you. About the brownies-they look scrumptious, however, if you want straight cuts through them instead of a crumbly cut (which maybe you don’t mind) I read this tip years ago. Use a plastic knife! Wholla! A perfect cut for warm brownies!

Oh, these look so good. Thanks for sharing, I’ll have to try these soon. Thank you for linking up to Thrifty Thursday.
Heidi @ Decor & More says
Yummy! Quick question: is the stick of butter for the brownies softened or melted? Thanks so much!

I made these brownies. They are yum and cake-like. I didn’t have a can of Hershey’s so I did a DIY I found on the net. Also, used strawberries instead of raspberries. Turned out delicious.

These weekend I ended up hosting Christmas dinner with 5 hours notice, and I had to make a dessert with what I had on hand, so I made these. They were great! I sprinkled the top with crushed peppermint in an attempt to make them worthy of Christmas dinner, and it was great! It added just a hint of mint and a little bit of crunch. I will never make boxed brownies again! Thanks for sharing, Edie!

Made a batch of your fudge and burned it. I’m new at baking so is it because I had my rolling butter mix too high? Or do you just need to be diligent about stirring? Help

Thanks for posting the alternative to Hershey’s syrup, which unfortunately contains corn syrup.
Katie says
Can you still find “cans” of Hershey syrup? I guess I haven’t looked for it in ages. We usually just buy the plastic squeezable thingy. If I can’t find the can, does anyone know how much syrup is in the can so I can measure it out of the plastic container?
Thanks!!
Shauna says
Katie,
I was able to find the syrup in a can after looking at the three different stores. The can is 16 oz., so you should be able to measure that much out of a plastic container.

Hi!
Your recipe looks really interesting! Can’t wait to try out. But the problem is my sister doesn’t like hersheys syrup (I don’t know how she can not love it!) so, is there a substitute? Please help!
Nadia says
Hi,
I love the blog, it has great things in it. I just have one question, about the measurements, what does 6 T. butter means, how much butter is that?
Thanks! 🙂
