“What matters is that we stretch our hearts open and draw near to each other. It is the way of hospitality, the way of life, and it is, in this remote place where we have awakened to find ourselves, the only way home.”
I am still trying to catch up on them but your emails and comments during this series have been so life-giving.
Thank you for taking this journey with me. You make it so worth it.
This series has turned me inside out.
I didn’t expect it to be so…..emotional. I am spent.
I set out to show you pretty pictures and share some new recipes.
Instead, I’m all twisted up inside and the last thing that seems relevant to me is a recipe.
And then there were the 3 loaves of pumpkin bread and the two tarts I made today to give away, serving as a timely reminder that food is always relevant.
All that to say, sometimes you have to live hospitality instead of talking about it.
Back soon with more goodies!
Also, I started a Hospitality Board on Pinterest and thought you might enjoy this article all about Southern Women. (it helps me to understand myself better!)
What other 31 Dayers are you reading? Tell me your favorites in the comments.
xoxo,
edie

Your 31 Day series is my favorite. Thank you for giving us SO much each day.
It is exhausting. I am writing 31 Days of Living by Faith and I cannot believe we are only on day 11. I also feel spent. I have been encouraged though by emails and stories and prayer requests. People need miracles. And hospitality. Praise God we have a miracle making God who always has time for people.

Loving this, so illuminating for me. Am also LOVING the series from http://www.scribblesfromemily.com, which is on ethical fashion. She’s spending the month wearing just 10 items of clothing!!! Her series has been so educational and eye-opening.

WOW! I am going to check that out right now. That sounds like a challenge! 🙂

You have totally instilled into our hearts and minds the true meaning of hospitality. You have a wonderful way of getting under the skin and sitting there, and your words grow and make us question, and re-evaluate, and want to grow and learn. It has really been awesome and I hope you are able to continue. The first nine days have set the tone, now show us how to cultivate it into our lives – what do we need to do/ or where do we start (obviously the bedroom!! LOL!). Please give us recipes! Give us decorating tips! Give us the fruit of His wisdom as He sees fit. But most of all – have fun and continue to make us smile.

Edie, thank you so much for your 31 Days to Hospitality. You are an inspiration to me. I will be hosting some of my husband’s family tomorrow evening…one aunt is visiting from CA, so everybody wants to see her of course. I am approaching the dinner and plans with a light heart b/c of your words. My husband was helping last night put the leaves in the dining table to make it big enough for 8 and said to me “you really love doing this, don’t you?” I laughed and said, yes, this is my xenia…to make the table look pretty with my & my mom’s & his mom’s china, fix a delicious meal and just enjoy people!
Also, thanks for the link to the Southern Women article…LOVED it. 🙂

“Food is always relevant.” Yes and Amen to that!! Love it.
Taking a small breather from writing could be just the thing to reinvigorate a heart of hospitality. Enjoy your weekend, and your bread 🙂

LOVE love love this! So often in our gifting and goal to be Hospitable, we forget to be hospitable to ourselves! Powerful lesson… thanks for the reminder!

“Food is always relevant,” which is why I am writing 31 Days of Comfort Food! But, I must say, 14 days in and I’m stuffed! I’ve been loving the Nester’s “Home. On Purpose” series, as well as The Domestic Fringe and Still Room to Grow.
Your hospitality series has touched my heart in so many ways. Thank you!

I am reading Nester and Yours. 🙂 I am doing mine on…recipes! 🙂 They are family and favorites, and, quite frankly, it has been hard. 🙂 Well, they are just a lot of work to get written out and such. I decided on doing it for my kids and for me to have. I thought of how you lost everything in your fire and thought, “What would I miss the most, if I lost everything in a fire, and my recipes from family and friends was one of the things that came to mind, so I decided to put them somewhere where I can, hopefully, keep them. 🙂
I love reading yours, so thoughtful and challenging.
